A little night music
By the title, you might think I was going to link Mozart to China. Not quite... I just discovered another interesting thing about this part of our globe. If your audio is turned off, you might want to turn it on to hear the background noise. (And if it is on, you might want to turn it back off! This gets very annoying, very quickly)

We discovered this noise while we were walking up the hill to go back to our hotel rooms. (Yes, Larry made it back from Nanjing) The funny thing is, we don't have the slightest clue what it is. Larry is not from this part of China, so he is in the dark as much as I am.

We're guessing that it is some type of frog. I had to go out and make a recording of it because the noise is unlike anything I'd ever heard. I would love to get a picture of it, but it only comes out at night and it is too dark for photography. Whatever creature it might be, it must be incredibly shy. Everytime I walk close to them, the noise stops and everything is as silent as the grave. If I give them about a 10 foot distance, they go back to singing again. Spooky.

I was considering putting the computer speakers out on the balcony and playing their songs back to them. The only thing that has stopped me is the constant rain. I'd love to give it a try and see if it attracts the creature. If it works and I can get a photo, I'll definitely keep you all updated.
