The Typhoon

Now, there is a typhoon north of Hainan Island. The storm didn't come here but we saw the high winds and the rain. Larry and I didn't work yesterday since the customer told him that the road was impassable. I just spent the day in my room, since the rain was too strong to go outside. The television is only in Chinese and I don't understand it. I have just one book in English and no more until I leave in two weeks. I didn't want to read it all in one day. I was bored. I spent the day on the internet, listening to Jimmy Buffet and the wind. The hotel manager told Larry to put the car in front of the hotel since the trees were falling out back. I stayed in my room.

I didn't believe it about the road until today when we went to the customer's place. It was true! The trees were laying across the road and only one car could pass at a time. We needed almost two hours to do a trip which usually takes only one. I feel bad for the people here. They have a lot to clean up. At last, we arrived at the customer's to find they didn't have any electricity. One of the electric poles also broke during the night and they were still without power. In fact, many of the workers slept in the office because they thought the building was stronger than the dormitories. I agree with them. Their dorms were built on sand and we saw part of the road which washed away because of the water mixing with that sand. I was glad we weren't in the middle of the typhoon. I bet that would have been bad.
