My New Friend

I awoke this morning to find this little guy hanging on the curtains in my hotel room. I probably shouldn't call him little. Little is a relative term and he is only "little" in the sense that he is much smaller than myself. Compared to his fellow insects, he is demonstrably a Goliath. I would estimate his body length to be at least four inches long. My first ponderance was how he entered my room since I have kept all the windows and balcony door closed throughout my stay. My first instinct was to smear him against the window. I decided against this course of actions since his size would have made quite a mess and I'm certain the maids would not appreciate cleaning his biology off the drapes. Beyond this, I believe most crickets are herbivores and since he has done me no harm, I've chosen to return the favor. Although, seeing as there is nothing of vegetable matter in my room, I'm not quite sure how he plans on sustaining himself. I've decided that this is not my concern and, if he returns tonight, I shall give him a name and keep him as my pet as long as he is willing and I remain in this country. Now, you see what Venezuela is doing to me. I really need to come home soon.
