Tambura Mardi Gras
You might notice a change to my website. I'm getting a little tired of the old design so I made some modest changes. Please let me know what you think.
Saturday night was our celebration of Mardi Gras. Jeffrey's dance group was performing and we were so happy to go see him. (Jeffrey is the good looking one on the left in the fedora)
I'm sure there are a few of you who know that Mardi Gras is the day before Ash Wednesday. Normally, we would celebrate this on the Saturday before, but there was a problem.
The band could only play on this date. Trubaduri is a really popular group so exceptions have to be made.
I can't tell you how proud I am of all the kids. They work really hard on their routines. I know I could
never have done something like this at their age.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Tambura music, this is Kolo dancing. It originated in the Balkans, mostly in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia/Hercegovina. Kolo means "wheel" and you can understand where the name came from. This style of dancing can be quite difficult. Many times, the dancing can get very fast in order to keep up with the tempo of the music. The intricacy of the steps is dependent on the skill of the dancers involved.
I'm really glad the kids are involved with this and keep this tradition alive. Frankly, it is the kind of skill which comes in very useful at weddings and other events.
