I have to wait on parts which won't arrive until tomorrow, so I had to free time today to go sightseeing. (It doesn't happen often so you have to take advantage when you can) I drove into downtown and did something I've always wanted to do. I took the CNN studio tour. It cost $13 and starts every hour, on the hour.

You start the tour by going through a security check. It's just like at the airport, but you're allowed to keep your shoes on. Next, you have to go up and eight story elevator. It goes into a giant globe where the tour starts. You're not allowed to take photos during the tour, but we did get to see all the studios. Well, we got to see the studios in Atlanta. Larry King, Anderson Cooper 360, and some of the other shows are filmed in other cities. It was pretty neat watching a live broadcast from inside the studio. For anyone who watches on a regular basis, I just discovered that Chuck Roberts wears glasses!

The CNN Center is pretty neat. It is a part of the Omni hotel which still exists right next door. All the offices for the news networks on the second and higher floors. The lower floor used to be a skating rink, but is now a shopping area. There is a food court, a police station, a post office, a dry cleaners, and various stores. Most of the stores are owned by Ted Turner, so there is a lot of TV merchandise. Of course, there is also a Braves store. (I couldn't go it. It hurt too much) The car on the right is on display in the food court near the door. This hummer was used by CNN's embedded correspondants during the Iraq war. It entered Baghdad on the same day the statue of Saddam Hussein was toppled over. It was worth seeing, even though I don't think very much of CNN or their brand of journalism.
