Look at all this crap! This is just a sampling of all the literature I have been given since I entered this country. NEWSFLASH - I do not live in a cave and I HAVE heard about the Swine Flu pandemic. I had thought Trinidad would be spared because of it's relative isolation, but alas such is not the case. They have seven victims right now which means there will be more. Apparently, a member of the national volleyball team was playing overseas and brought it back with him. Such are the arbitrary, indiscriminate fortunes of international sport...

There are just too many things about this epidemic that really trouble me. For one, more people die from the normal flu in a given year then from this new strain. So it's a new strain! Big deal! It's not the first; it won't be the last. Some guy in Switzerland has already come up with a vaccine for it. Do you know I was asked, upon entering Trinidad, whether or not I had been in close contact with any pigs? What does this have to do with the price of tea in China?

I'm going to clue all of you in about something, so get ready. Many of you reading this are going to get swine flu within the next few months. There's an even better chance that I'll get it since I travel around a lot. You'll be sick for a few days, then you'll get better and your immune system will be no worse off for it. Chicken soup and Tamiflu will help immensely. After that, the chances are incredibly good that life will go one as usual. Get over it.
