Back to Camden
I know I've complained about London on many occassions. To be honest, things just aren't going as good over here as I had hoped this trip and I'm feeling incredibly anti-social. At first, I was boycotting all English music. I haven't burned an English band on my mix CD's in 2 weeks. This weekend I took to listening to the Clash and Sex Pistols. They've never seemed to like it here anymore than I do.

Camden Town is different, however. Camden is where all the anti-social people come to hang out. It is a bit daring on the weekends because the "interesting" people come out of the woodwork. There are still numerous punk rockers here. Doc Martin's stores and head shops are the rule and not the exception. There are other unusuals, as well. Saturday night, there was a lady running around in a tutu and a pair of wings. ???

There are many back streets in the markets here and you have to be a bit cautious. Tourists are frowned upon as "posers". Cameras are not tolerated. Some of the punks will let you pay to have a photo taken with them since they can tell their friends that they "suckered the tourists". The place isn't just frequented by anarchists and beatniks. This is a niche place to hang out and isn't filled with yuppies like Covent Garden or Leceister Square. The regulars don't like this fact, but they tolerate it.
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, all you boys and girls
~The Clash
When I turned a corner, there were groups of people sitting around at a hooka bar. (I assume they were smoking tobacco)
The reason I come here, however, is very different. This is one of the few places in London where you can come for decent food. I found a beautiful, little Brazilian restaurant and ordered the fejoado you see on the left. This is a wonderful black bean stew which I absolutely adore and haven't had in a long time. It was worth all the trouble to get here and went well with a Brahma beer. Viva Brasil!
