Day in Bridgeport

Today, my work finished early so I could do a little sightseeing. Bridgeport is not a big city, but there are two men from here who are famous. The first man is the head of the circus, P.T. Barnum. Mr. Barnum died in the year 1891. His statue stands in Seaside Park and his former home is now a museum. I went to the museum, but unfortunately, that is closed on Mondays. I took a picture of it and left.

Barnum was famous but he was also a terrible fraud. For example, he often put a sign at the entrance to his circue that read, "This way to the egress".
For those who don't know, the word 'egress' means 'exit'. He fooled quite a lot of people who didn't know enough to bring a dictionary with them. Most assumed an 'egress' was some type of strange animal or some other curiousity and went through the door. Of course, they needed to buy a second ticket again.

The second famous citizen from Bridgeport is Igor Sikorsky, the father of the modern helicopter. Mr Sikorsky was born in Russia, but he moved to the United States in the year 1919. Later, he begin a factory in Bridgeport for building helicopters and it is still here today. In Bridgeport, a bridge and an airport are named in honor of this genius.
