It's Raining
Oh yes! Today it rained in Caracas. And I am very happy. Now, the city has been dry for a year and need more rain. This is one of the canals that are the water supply for Caracas. As you can see, it is very low. Yesterday, I read in the newspaper that soon the hospitals will have to start bringing water in by truck for the patients. Mr Chavez even asked the citizens to stop singing in the shower. (singers use more water) Before I came here, I heard that he shut off the pipes to the city, but it wasn't true. We have enough water. (up till now)
The problem is that I have nothing to do. I have a thick book but I'll soon finish reading it. Otherwise, I'm bored. The customer's machines are not working and I am now waiting for the parts to repair it. Unfortunately, the parts have to leave Venezuelan customs and we not know when they will arrive. My hosts are very kind but they are Brazilian and speak Spanish with a strange accent. I don't understand them very well. My customer is now making a new line for the Caracas Metro. Specifically, they are making the tunnel through which the train goes. At the work site, there are parts of the tunnel everywhere. From the photo, you can see that this is a very serious job. The traffic in Caracas is always bad. The cars have to wait all hours of the day. My office is only 10 or 12 km from my hotel but we need almost and hour (or more) to arrive each day. The new line will go from a big suburb to the city center of Caracas. I like very much to be a part of this important work. I need a holiday. I can't wait to go to the Turks and Caicos with my wife. |
